A total of 39 security companies were commended at the First Best Training Award (BTA) Presentation Ceremony today (March 24).
Officiating at the ceremony, the Director of Operations of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), Mr Hung Hak-wai, Paul said that the BTA was aimed at encouraging security companies to develop long-term training programmes with a view to enhancing the quality and professional competence of their security officers.
He pointed out that this would help the Force to maintain the law and order of the society as well as provide an environment conducive for the long-term development of the industry.
The Force has been motivating the industry to provide quality services by various means. In addition to arranging regular inspections to security companies and providing guidelines to the management and practitioners, each Regional Crime Prevention Offices organise ¡®Best Security Guards Award¡¯ regularly to recognise the achievement of the practitioners, he said.
Launched for the first time, the BTA is organised by the HKPF's Crime Prevention Bureau and the Security Services Training Board of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), with the support of the Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority (SGSIA).
The BTA comprises four categories: "Type I Security Company Licence" (offer general security service with more than 500 staff), "Type I Security Company Licence" (offer general security service with 500 or less than 500 staff), "Type II Security Company Licence" (offer armoured transportation service), and "Type III Security Company Licence" (offer design, installation, maintenance and repair service of security systems).
A selection panel made up of representatives from the HKPF, VTC and SGSIA, assessed the resources allocated to training activities by the participating companies. Criteria included the number of training hours and the number of staff involved in the past 12 months, the coverage of the training course and the involvement and support of the management.
Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Awards were presented to winning security companies in recognition to their efforts to enhance the professional competence of their staff.
