Seven employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 5) obtained three orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $271,000 against three employers at the District Court.

     The three employers were Green Vision Limited, Taiyo Crystal Manufactory Company Limited and Harmony Designs Limited. They were ordered to pay the MPFA $122,603.51, $96,600 and $52,500 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 16, one and seven employees of the respective defendants.

     Meanwhile, the MPFA successfully pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $90,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, four defendants, namely Power Properties Management Limited, Good Faith Security Management Limited, Slim Fortress Development Asia Limited and Moment Design & Marketing Co. Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $29,456.63, $27,825.23, $21,315.63 and $11,635.73 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay the costs of $930. The Tribunal ordered the defendants to pay $155, $129, $130 and $129 respectively as the costs of the claims.
