Guidelines on Minor Works Control System now on sale (with photos)
***********************************************************

The "General Guidelines on Minor Works Control System" (General Guidelines) and "Technical Guidelines on Minor Works Control System" (Technical Guidelines), published by the Buildings Department, are now on sale.

To tie in with the full implementation of the minor works control system on December 31, 2010, as well as to assist members of the public in understanding and effectively following the new system, the Buildings Department has formulated "Technical Guidelines" for the trade and provided "General Guidelines" for owners' corporations and building owners/occupants.  This is to assist their understanding of the classification of minor works and the appointment of appropriate building professionals and registered contractors for the carrying out of minor works.

"The minor works control system aims to simplify the existing statutory procedures in order to provide a lawful, simple, safe and convenient means for building owners to carry out small-scale building works, such as the installation of supporting frames for air conditioners and drying racks," a spokesman of the Buildings Department said.

The "General Guidelines" and "Technical Guidelines" provide a clear explanation of the requirements of the minor works control system for property owners, contractors and practitioners.  Apart from identifying legal responsibilities, technical guidance, minor works design and details, safety recommendations and precautionary measures for complying with the associated new legislation are also provided.

The "General Guidelines" and "Technical Guidelines" are on sale at the Publications Sales Unit of the Information Services Department at $32 and $119 respectively for the English version, and $24 and $72 respectively for the Chinese version.  An electronic ordering service is also available at the online Government Bookstore on www.bookstore.gov.hk, details of which can be obtained through the telephone enquiry service of the Information Services Department at 2537 1910.  Online version of the two guidelines is also available on the Buildings Department's webpage: www.bd.gov.hk/english/documents/index_crlist.html.
