Report Room Recording System comes into service (with photo)
************************************************************

To enhance service quality and operation of Police report rooms, a new telephone system, Report Room Recording System (RRRS), will come into service starting December 12 (Sunday).

Replacing the existing public enquiry lines, RRRS is installed with a feature that callers will be routed to a queuing mode when the lines are busy.

¡°Callers will be informed by a recorded message in English, Cantonese and Putonghua that they may either call later, continue to wait or call ¡®999¡¯ in case of emergency,¡± a Police spokesman said.

They will also be told that the content of the conversation will be recorded for service improvement.

¡°RRRS will enable police officers to serve the public in a more efficient and transparent manner,¡± he said.

Under the system, all existing public enquiry lines will be allocated with new telephone numbers.

To avoid disruption to the service, there will be a three-month grace period after the rollout, the spokesman said.

All calls to old numbers of report room will be forwarded to new numbers during the grace period. Callers will also be reminded of the change by a recorded message.

Police Contact Cards listing all new report room telephone numbers will be available for collection at police stations and Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department starting December 12.

The list of new telephone numbers of report rooms can also be found on Police website (www.police.gov.hk).
