Legislative Council Building Open Day (with photos)
***************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The annual event of the Legislative Council (LegCo) - the LegCo Building Open Day - will be held this Saturday (December 4) from 10am to 6pm. As LegCo will move into the LegCo Complex at the Tamar site next year, the upcoming Open Day is therefore the last time to be organised in the existing LegCo Building, making it extraordinarily meaningful.

To make the event more memorable and interesting, the LegCo Secretariat has borrowed the President Chair of the LegCo under British rule from the Hong Kong Museum of History for display in the LegCo Building on the Open Day. Moreover, in order to enhance the visitors' knowledge about LegCo, a "LegCo Quiz" game will be introduced to give the visitors a challenge. Five multiple-choice questions will be printed on the Open Day leaflet. Visitors will receive a gift if they can answer all the questions correctly.

In addition, two new do-it-yourself activities, namely "LegCo Building Puzzle Challenge" and "Colouring the LegCo Building", will be organised during the Open Day. For the "LegCo Building Puzzle Challenge", there are six sets of puzzle featuring different facilities and architectural characteristics of the LegCo Building. Visitors can play around the puzzle to enhance their understanding of the Building's facilities and architectural value. For the "Colouring the LegCo Building", visitors can colour a picture of the LegCo Building and use a paper frame to display their work.

Not only can visitors pay a visit to the nearly century-old LegCo Building, but they will also have the opportunity to observe marching bands performance. Five marching bands have been invited to perform on the Open Day, including Hong Kong Vigor Marching Band, Pok Oi Hospital Tang Pui King Memorial College Marching Band, Ho Ngai College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen) Marching Band, STFA Ho Yat Tung Primary School Marching Band and CUHK FAA Thomas Cheung secondary School Marching Band.

Similar to last year's Open Day, a photo corner and an exhibition area will be set up outside the LegCo Building for individual Members to meet the public and take photos with them. Interactive computer games on LegCo and Christmas e-cards sending service will also be arranged to foster a more joyful and pleasant atmosphere for the event.

The President of LegCo, Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Miriam Lau Kin-yee, and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Fred Li Wah-ming, will officiate at an opening ceremony at 9.30am on that day outside the LegCo Building to mark the start of the event.

Admission is free and no ticket is required for the event. Those interested in visiting the LegCo Building are requested to assemble outside Public Entrance II of the Building (facing the Statue Square) at any time from 10am to 6pm on that day to wait for admission at regular intervals. Meanwhile, starting from 10am, fast pass for visiting during 12.30pm to 4.30pm will be distributed upon request outside Public Entrance II of the Building on a first-come-first-served basis. Fast pass holders can visit the LegCo Building at a designated time. In addition to tours conducted in Cantonese, this year's Open Day will also provide English (at noon, 2pm and 4pm) and Mandarin (at 11am, 1pm and 3pm) tours to accommodate the needs of different visitors.

The touring route will be one-way only and members of the public will enter at the Public Entrance II and exit from the Public Entrance I of the LegCo Building. At the start of the tour, visitors will be given two leaflets introducing the Open Day and the functions and work of the Council respectively. They will receive a souvenir before leaving the Building.
