*********************************************************

To increase secondary students' understanding of Hong Kong's natural heritage and resources, and to showcase their creativity, the government youth portal is organising a Moving Images Competition entitled "Fresh Takes on Nature". Students are encouraged to submit short video clips or moving images (no longer than 180 seconds) to celebrate Hong Kong's geodiversity, biodiversity and natural heritage.

Attractive rewards and prizes will be given to entrants and winners. Each participant will get an admission ticket to the dress rehearsal of "WALKING WITH DINOSAURS¡ªThe Arena Spectacular" on a first-come-first-served basis. Members of the finalist teams will be invited to visit the show backstage, and each team will also be given four show tickets. What's more, the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up will have a valuable learning opportunity to join a professional crew to produce short videos on environment and conservation in the community.

The competition, which has two categories of participants, Junior (Secondary 1 to 3) and Senior (Secondary 4 to 7), is open to all secondary students in Hong Kong for the 2010/2011 academic year. The submission deadline is November 30, 2010.

The organisations supporting this competition include Hong Kong Wetland Park of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, WWF - Hong Kong, the Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong, the Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University, and the Lands Department (listed in arbitrary order).

The government youth portal will join some of the supporting organisations to hold a workshop for students on November 5, 2010, in the Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University. The workshop aims to provide participants with the chance to learn more about Hong Kong's natural heritage and techniques in moving images production. Registration for the workshop is now available at the competition website (www.youth.gov.hk/freshtakes).
