FS and SFST to visit Shanghai

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, and the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will start a three-day visit tomorrow (July 20) to Shanghai where they will attend a financial forum which is an official Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) programme for Expo 2010 Shanghai China.

     The Finance Forum, with the theme "Stronger Links, Stronger Markets: Hong Kong, the Mainland and the World", will be held on July 21 by the HKSAR Government's Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB), Invest Hong Kong and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.

     The forum participants will discuss issues related to the nation's ongoing opening up, continuing development and internationalisation of its financial markets.

     Speakers at the forum will include government officials and business leaders from the Mainland, Hong Kong and overseas, as well as senior representatives of international financial institutions. Mr Tsang will give the opening address and Professor Chan will moderate the panel discussion on the prospects for renminbi offshore products as well as deliver the closing remarks at the forum.

     On July 22, Mr Tsang will attend WTO Day: Report Meeting on the Role of the City in Trade, organised by the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Centre. The event will also be attended by the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Mr Pascal Lamy, and senior officials of the Ministry of Commerce.

     During the visit to Shanghai, Professor Chan and FSTB members will meet officials of the Shanghai Municipal Government Financial Services Office. Representatives of the financial regulators and exchanges of the two sides will also join the meeting, which is aimed at enhancing co-operation between Hong Kong and Shanghai on financial services. Professor Chan and a group of senior representatives from the HKSAR financial services sector will visit the Expo Park before returning to Hong Kong.
