Insect Chorus staged at Hong Kong Wetland Park (with photos)
************************************************************

The Hong Kong Wetland Park will stage "Insect Chorus" events from May 21 to October 4 allowing visitors to have a glimpse of the incredible tiny insect world around us.

Insects have lived on earth for over 380 million years and have the greatest number of species in the animal kingdom. Through text and photos on display panels, two exhibitions, "Fantastic World of Insects" and "Meet the Fireflies", will provide information on the body structure and metamorphosis of insects and their interesting habits and behaviours. Giant insect models including ant, dragonfly, grasshopper, stick insect, backswimmer and water skater will also be exhibited for visitors to take a close look at their unique features in detail.

To add extra fun, the park will arrange guided tours on insects. Interpreters will share with participants various fun facts about insects such as the strategies they use to defend themselves against predators and to find partners.

Apart from insects, visitors can also appreciate the beauty of a variety of Indian lotus and water lilies in the Freshwater Marsh from now to August 31. Blooming in summer, the lotus is a graceful and elegant aquatic plant. Lotus flowers are fragrant and come in range of colours such as red, pink and white. In addition to their ornamental and ecological merits, aquatic plants also have significant economic, dietetic and medicinal value. Thematic exhibitions and guided tours will also be provided to enhance visitors' knowledge.

With a wide spectrum of activities, including public lectures, drama, a photo exhibition, oil painting and photography workshops, the park will give visitors a closer look at the insects while enjoying the lotus blooms.
