United Nations Sanctions (Democratic People's Republic of Korea)(Amendment) Regulation 2010 gazetted

     The Government today (January 15) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) (Amendment) Regulation 2010, which came into effect on the same date.

     "The Amendment Regulation amends the existing sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to implement decisions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in Resolution 1874.  It also implements relevant decisions of the UNSC to expand the scope of sanctions against the DPRK under UNSC Resolution 1718 to include a list of additional items, material, equipment, goods or technology," a government spokesman said.

     The Amendment Regulation provides for -

- an expanded scope of items subject to sanctions to include all arms and related materiel;

- prohibition against the procurement of technical training, service, assistance or advice from the DPRK related to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of any specified arms;

- prohibition against engaging in certain financial transaction related to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of any specified arms the supply, sale, transfer, carriage or procurement of which is prohibited; and

- prohibition against providing bunkering and other services to a ship registered in the DPRK under certain circumstances.
