More than 2,700 youngsters and Junior Police Call (JPC) members today (December 18) participated in a new round of activities under the "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign to strengthen anti-drug publicity throughout the territory with the approach of the Christmas holiday.

About 200 JPC members of Yuen Long District, including about 20 non-ethnic Chinese members, committed to cherish life and stay away from drug at a pledging ceremony.  They then distributed home-made cookies to students in the district, with anti-drug slogans in Chinese, English, Nepalese and Pakistani printed on the packing in order to disseminate the messages to different ethnic groups.

Through participating in the Anti-Drug Day Kill 'K' Athletics Competition, JPC members of Sham Shui Po District shared their positive energy and promoted healthy living among their peers.

JPC members of Lantau Island staged the 'I Would Say No To Drug' signing campaign at their schools. Other JPC members visited the Drug InfoCentre, Christian New Life Association 'New Life Garden' Gospel Treatment and Counselling Centre, and took part in seminars, training camps as well as leaflet distribution.

In the evening, Police officers of Border District joined by the Under Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok; Chairman of the Action Committee Against Narcotics, Dr Daniel Shek; officers from Customs and Excise and Immigration Departments, JPC members and artistes distributed anti-drug leaflets to passengers at Lo Wu Boundary Control Point as part of the efforts to combat cross-boundary drug abuse.

A police spokesman said, "While the festive season is getting near, youngsters are reminded not to engage in any illegal activities and should say 'No' to drugs.

"We will continue organising community and education programmes with schools and other organisations to enhance youth awareness of the consequences of drug abuse and to encourage them to live healthy lives.Ħħ

Launched last December and funded by the Beat Drugs Fund, the "JPC Anti-drug Day" campaign aims to reinforce territory-wide anti-drug education and publicity among youngsters and to raise public awareness on the problem of youth drug abuse.
