Five employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 9) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $42,000 on behalf of 49 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, five defendants, namely Chan Man Chung and Ho Wai Keung trading as Daily Delivery Company, Leung Kwong Chi trading as Yu San Motor Cleaning Services Company, Lee Pui Yee formerly trading as Hi-speed Delivery Company, Lin Yung Pok trading as Forever Entertainment Co. and Good Huge Limited trading as Sunrise Seafood Restaurant, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $20,139, $15,648.1, $2,354.88, $1,970.36 and $1,935.95, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $179, $139, $109, $130 and $109 as the costs in respect of the claims.
