Two employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 16) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $22,400 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.

    The defendant, Man Cheong Construction Engineering Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sums of $22,442.76, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    Meanwhile, the District Court earlier issued judgment against one employer, namely, Ho Wai Fong and Ho Chiu Ming both trading as Kin Hing Printing Press.  The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $142,174.10, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to nine employees of the defendant.

    The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $230 as the costs in respect of the claim.
