The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (April 17) reminded fresh provision shop and market stall operators not to sell chilled or frozen poultry without permission, and not to sell chilled or frozen poultry as fresh poultry.
FEHD officers this morning raided a fresh provision shop at stall No 87, Tin Yiu Estate Market, Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long, suspected of selling chilled and frozen poultry without permission. About 16 kilogrammes of chilled duck and 116 kilogrammes of frozen chicken feet were seized. A woman is assisting the investigation.
"The shop, with a licence permitting the sale of fresh poultry, was allegedly selling chilled and frozen poultry as well. This could involve a breach of the Food Business Regulation. The maximum penalty for the offence is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment," an FEHD spokesman said.
He said the department would continue to closely monitor the sale of poultry at retail level and take enforcement action to safeguard food safety and public health.
"Anyone who has doubt about poultry being sold at retail outlets should call the department's hotline at 2868 0000," the spokesman said.
