A woman fined for possession for sale of prohibited food

    A woman was convicted by the Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (December 21) for possession for sale of prohibited food and fined $5,000.

     The woman was arrested in an operation against the sale of pork of dubious origin by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officers in Luen Wo Hui Market, Fanling, on July 13 last year.

     "The department would continue to closely monitor the sale of meat at retail level and take stringent enforcement action to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.  

     The maximum penalty for possession for sale of prohibited food is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.
