Nine employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority£º

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 19) obtained an order in the District Court or payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $140,000 against an employer. The MPFA also pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $100,000 on behalf of 43 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgment against Hung Sing Cargo-passenger Services Paging Centre (HK) Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $146,373.65, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to three employees of the defendant.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, Chin Cheong Toys Limited, Yiu Cheong Metal Construction Limited and Yeung Chi Ho formerly trading as PIT House, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $36,046.96, $12,429.93 and $4,248.11, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants, Kingsic Trading Limited, Woo Kam Wai trading as Times Communication Trading Co, Lin Yung Pok formerly trading as Forever Entertainment Co, Marianne Spa II Limited trading as Orient Spas By Marianne and Friendship Noodles & Dumpling (HK) Limited trading as Tai Wu Shanghai Casual Restaurant, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $34,290.28, $10,525.83, $5,513.25, $1,515.14 and $1,317.89, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930 and the tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $220, $168, $160, $268, $170, $80, $60 and $152.
