MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 17 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 13) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $200,000 on behalf of 17 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendant, Cheng Chung Suen trading as Shing Tai Noodles, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of  $48,847.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The defendants, Nuclear Construction and Engineering Company Limited, Casa Italia Co. Limited, Gee Boutique Fashion Limited, Lucky Link Investment Limited trading as êP»ª²ÍÌü, Chong Yu Lung formerly trading as Super Restaurant and Maxforest Business Secretarial Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,100, $43,200, $39,701.49, $13,375, $9,610 and $6,200, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $200, $160, $380, $170, $360, $150 and $180 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Gee Boutique Fashion Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to a count of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $6,000.
