The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) held the seventh CEDD Construction Site Safety Award presentation ceremony today (June 8) to commend 15 contractors with outstanding safety performance at its construction sites.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Daniel Chung, said that the department always accords top priority to the safety and health of site personnel. With the huge amount of construction output, the high mobility of technical workers and the declining number of young recruits at present, maintaining a good site safety culture will continue to be the department's big challenge.
He urged industry members to consider at the design stage of their projects the safety of the workers who will take part in the construction and maintenance of works, and avoid construction plans with high safety risks.
The CEDD Construction Site Safety Award Scheme was launched in 2009 with the aim of enhancing the safety culture and standards of the CEDD's construction sites. The Innovation Award for Site Safety was specially introduced this year to encourage contractors to further enhance site safety by adopting innovative ideas and new technologies.
