In response to media enquiries on the provisions for running for the election of the Chief Executive by serving government officials, a spokesman for the Chief Executive's Office today (May 31) responded as follows:
According to the Chief Executive Election Ordinance, a person who holds the office of the Chief Executive for the second consecutive term; and a prescribed public officer who holds an office and is employed in a Government department or bureau, cannot be nominated as a candidate in the election of the Chief Executive.
