Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Cantonese Opera Summer Camp - Demonstration and Finale Performance" will be staged in August. This is a showcase of demonstrations by professional actor and tutor Yuen Siu-fai and young Cantonese opera artists as well as the finale performance by Cantonese Opera Summer Camp participants.
Details of the performances are as follows:
August 16 (Friday), 7.30pm
Demonstration performance of "Nazha" by professional actors
Performances by Yuen Siu-fai, Yuen Sin-ting, Tsui Yue-ming, Kwok Chun-sing, Cheung Kit-har, Leung Wai-hong, Pui Chun-hin and others
Story: After killing the third prince of the Dragon King, Nazha kills himself in order to protect his family. With the help of Immortal Taiyi, Nazha is subsequently reincarnated with a body made from lotus roots and blossoms. After Nazha returns home, he kills a disciple of Lady Shiji by accident. Lady Shiji provokes a fight when she goes to Nazha's father to demand justice. With the help of the gods of heaven, Shiji is finally defeated.
August 17 (Saturday), 7.30pm
Finale performance by Cantonese Opera Summer Camp participants and demonstration performance of "The Triple-forked Crossroad" and "The Camp" from "The Matchless Pair" by professional actors
Performances by Yuen Siu-fai, Cheung Kit-har, Leung Wai-hong, Lai Yiu-wei, Wong Po-hyun, Yuen Sin-ting and others
Story: "The Triple-forked Crossroad" is an excerpt which is highly demanding of performers' martial arts skills. This interesting excerpt shows two characters fighting in the dark while the stage is fully lit. "The Camp" from "The Matchless Pair" is about General Xia Yunlong who coerces his wife, Caifeng, the daughter of Marshal Hoe, to issue the Marshal's "Tiger" mandate for troop deployment in order to restore his own country. The two families then turn against each other in fighting for the "Tiger" mandate.
Performances will be staged at the Theatre of Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $140 and $90 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
