Judicial appointments

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (November 12) announced four judicial appointments covering the District Court and Magistrates' Courts.

     The appointments include two District Judges and two Permanent Magistrates.  All appointments are made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission. They will take effect from November 13, 2012.

District Judges
---------------

     Mr Andrew Li Shu-yuk and Mr Herbert Au-Yeung Ho-wing are appointed as District Judges.

Permanent Magistrates
---------------------

     Ms Cheung Kit-yee and Ms June Cheung Tin-ngan are appointed as Permanent Magistrates.

     Further judicial appointments will be announced in due course.

     The biographical notes of the appointees are as follows:

Mr Andrew Li Shu-yuk

     Mr Li was born in Hong Kong in 1960. He obtained an LL.B. from the University of West of England, Bristol, United Kingdom in 1984 and completed the Bar Finals Examination of the Council of Legal Education in the United Kingdom in 1985. He obtained an LL.M. in Public Law from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom in 2001. He was called to the Bar in the United Kingdom in 1985, in Hong Kong in 1986 and in Singapore in 1994. He has been in private practice since 1986. He was appointed as Deputy District Judge for a period in 1997.

Mr Herbert Au-Yeung Ho-wing

     Mr Au-Yeung was born in Hong Kong in 1973. He obtained an LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1996 and 1997 respectively. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1997. He has been in private practice since 1998. He was appointed as Deputy District Judge for periods in 2010 and 2011.

Ms Cheung Kit-yee

     Ms Cheung was born in Hong Kong in 1971. She obtained an LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the City University of Hong Kong in 1994 and 1995 respectively. She was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1995. She joined the Department of Justice as Government Counsel in 1997 and was promoted to Senior Government Counsel in 2007.

Ms June Cheung Tin-ngan

     Ms Cheung was born in Hong Kong in 1977. She obtained an LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1999 and 2000 respectively. She was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2000. She joined the Department of Justice as Government Counsel in 2001 and was promoted to Senior Government Counsel in 2008.
