HKETCO Director welcomes implementation of online Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan residents to visit Hong Kong
************************************************************

The Hong Kong Immigration Department today (August 21) announced the implementation details of the online Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan residents to visit Hong Kong.

Welcoming the new arrangement, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO), Mr John Leung, said it will further enhance travel convenience for Taiwan visitors and contribute to closer Hong Kong-Taiwan exchanges.

"The number of Taiwan residents visiting Hong Kong has already exceeded 1.2 million in the first seven months of this year. I believe the number will increase after the launch of the new online Pre-arrival Registration arrangement on September 1.

"We welcome Taiwan visitors and are expecting more will be coming to Hong Kong to experience the unique glamour of Asia's world city," Mr Leung said.

Mr Leung also said the new arrangement is a result of the co-operation between the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Co-operation and Promotion Council (ECCPC) and the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council (THEC).

"In the spirit of reciprocity, the Hong Kong side agreed at the second joint meeting between the ECCPC and the THEC in August last year that Hong Kong would allow Taiwan residents to use online Pre-arrival Registration free of charge, so as to further promote the exchanges between the people of Hong Kong and Taiwan," Mr Leung added.
Details of the Pre-arrival Registration can be found at the website, www.gov.hk/par. For enquiries in Taiwan, please contact the HKETCO (website: www.hketco.hk) at (886)2 2720 0858.
