SDEV speaks on Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point
********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session today (September 1) after the Prize Award Ceremony for International Design Ideas Competition for Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Passenger Terminal Building.

Reporter: Mrs Lam, what is so special about your new facility? How is it different from other control points?

Secretary for Development: As I have said, this is the first Border Control Point facility where we provide for direct access by passengers as well as by vehicles. So we have overcome some of the technical challenges to provide for this direct access arrangement. You can imagine that in future visitors could come to this new control point at Heung Yuen Wai either by car or on foot. As far as on foot is concerned, we provide a pedestrian subway linking to Lin Ma Hang Road where there are a few villages. So they don﷿t actually need to take any particular vehicles and they can walk to the terminal building. By car you could either self-drive your car and park in one of the 400 parking spaces that we have provided and walk to the terminal building. Or you can make use of the loading and unloading facility to be taken directly to the building by your friends and relatives. In a way it is very similar to what we are doing at the Hong Kong International Airport. But its uniqueness lies in a sense that in terms of land border control point, this is the first one that we manage to create this facility.
