The Central Policy Unit, the Development Research Centre of the Fujian Provincial People's Government and the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences today (March 29) held the Fujian and Hong Kong Co-operation and Development Forum in Hong Kong. Community leaders in Hong Kong and officials and researchers from Fujian Province exchanged views on the prospects for co-operation and development between the two places.
The forum also explored ways to further enhance economic and trade relationships between Hong Kong, Fujian and Taiwan, as envisaged under the national strategy for the development of the "Economic Zone on the West Coast of the Taiwan Strait".
The Fujian delegation included Director of Institute for Asia-Pacific Economic Research of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, Dr Liu Yisheng, and Director of Development Research Centre of the Fujian Provincial People's Government, Professor Li Minrong. They briefed the forum on Fujian's latest developments and the prospects for better co-operation between Fujian, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Other speakers at the forum included General Manager of Hang Seng Bank, Mr Andrew Fung; Deputy Executive Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Mr Benjamin Chau; and Vice President of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, Dr Enboa Wu. Their speeches covered the roles and contributions of Hong Kong's financial, technological and service sectors to the development of the Economic Zone on the West Coast of the Taiwan Strait in Fujian.
About 100 participants attended today's forum, including local businessmen, academics, representatives from the technological sector and think-tanks, and government officials from Hong Kong and Fujian.
