The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 20) obtained four orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $330,000 against four employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $18,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The District Court today issued judgments against four employers, namely, Yiu Cheong Metal Construction Limited, Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited, Chun Shing Resources Company Limited and Painting International Beauty (Central) Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $127,402.59, $116,695.21, $106,585.15 and $89,275.3, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to five, six, two and eight employees of the defendants respectively.

Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Kong On Nursing Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $17,710, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants each to pay costs of $930, while the tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $126 as the costs in respect of the claim.
