TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
 
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
 
THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 IS IN FORCE.
 
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 41 TO 62
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED.
 
AT 4 A.M., SUPER TYPHOON YAGI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 600
KILOMETRES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 20.3 DEGREES
NORTH 108.8 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS BEIBU
WAN AND TOWARDS THE NORTHERN PART OF VIETNAM.


 
IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, YAGI TRACKED WESTWARDS STEADILY
ACROSS BEIBU WAN AND CONTINUED TO MOVE AWAY FROM HONG KONG.
THE THREAT POSED TO HONG KONG BY YAGI IS FURTHER REDUCED.
MEANWHILE, THE NORTHEAST MONSOON IS AFFECTING SOUTHEASTERN
CHINA. THE OBSERVATORY WILL ISSUE THE STRONG MONSOON SIGNAL
SHORTLY.
 
LOCALLY, THERE WILL BE SHOWERS AND A FEW SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS TODAY. SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AND WINDS WILL
STILL BE STRONG OFFSHORE AND ON HIGH GROUND AT FIRST. SEAS
WILL BE ROUGH WITH SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD
STAY ON ALERT.


 
IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
NGONG PING, TAP MUN AND CHEUNG CHAU WERE 77, 51 AND 51
KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING 101, 61
AND 58 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.

2. AVOID STAYING IN AREAS EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS. DRIVERS
USING HIGHWAYS AND FLYOVERS SHOULD BE ALERT TO VIOLENT
GUSTS.

SHELTERS.
