TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 41 TO 62
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED.
AT 2 A.M., SUPER TYPHOON YAGI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 560
KILOMETRES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 20.3 DEGREES
NORTH 109.2 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR CROSSING
BEIBU WAN.
YAGI CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY FROM HONG KONG. UNDER THE
INFLUENCE OF ITS OUTER RAINBANDS, WINDS ARE STILL STRONG
OVER THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY, WITH
OCCASIONAL GALE WINDS OFFSHORE AND ON HIGH GROUND. THE
STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE FOR SOME
TIME. WHEN THE THREAT POSED BY YAGI IS FURTHER REDUCED, THE
OBSERVATORY WILL ISSUE THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO.1 OR THE
STRONG MONSOON SIGNAL.
THE RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH YAGI WILL STILL AFFECT THE
PEARL RIVER ESTUARY AT FIRST TODAY, BRINGING SQUALLY
SHOWERS TO HONG KONG. SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES WITH
VIOLENT GUSTS AT FIRST TODAY. SEAS WILL BE ROUGH WITH
SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM
THE SHORELINE AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.
IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
NGONG PING, CHEUNG CHAU AND TAP MUN WERE 78, 59 AND 54
KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING 105, 66
AND 63 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.
