TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
TYPHOON YAGI HAS INTENSIFIED INTO A SEVERE TYPHOON.
AT 5 P.M., YAGI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 470 KILOMETRES
SOUTHEAST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 19.2 DEGREES NORTH 117.2
DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT 10
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH
CHINA SEA AND INTENSIFY GRADUALLY.
IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, YAGI TRACKED WESTWARDS STEADILY AND
INTENSIFIED. ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST, LOCAL WINDS
WILL STRENGTHEN GRADUALLY TONIGHT. THE OBSERVATORY WILL
ISSUE THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO.3, AT 6:40 P.M. TONIGHT.
AS YAGI CONTINUES TO EDGE CLOSER TO THE WESTERN PART OF THE
SOUTH CHINA COAST, WINDS IN THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER
ESTUARY WILL STRENGTHEN FURTHER LATER TOMORROW. DEPENDING
ON THE MOVEMENT AND CHANGE OF INTENSITY OF YAGI, THE
OBSERVATORY WILL ASSESS THE NEED TO ISSUE HIGHER TROPICAL
CYCLONE WARNING SIGNALS BETWEEN TOMORROW AFTERNOON AND
TOMORROW NIGHT.
THERE WILL BE SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD STAY
AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE AND NOT ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.
