***************************************************************
Members of the Central and Western District Council (DC) and Tai Po DC had meetings with Legislative Council (LegCo) Members at the LegCo Complex today (May 31) to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
LegCo Members Mr Paul Tse and Mr Chan Hak-kan acted as convenors of the meetings with the Central and Western DC and Tai Po DC respectively. The Chairmen of the Central and Western DC and Tai Po DC and all 42 DC Members attended the meetings.
During the meeting between the Central and Western DC Members and the LegCo Members, they discussed the development of the Central and Western District Promenade; the proposal of establishing a tram museum; and the setting up of a smart car park at the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park. During the meeting between the Tai Po DC Members and the LegCo Members, they discussed expediting the commencement of road works at Kwong Fuk Bridge in Tai Po; the progress of the construction of Pak Shek Kok Station of MTR East Rail Line; and the improvement of ancillary facilities on the two sides of Lam Tsuen River to create public space for leisure, sports and recreation activities.
A spokesman for the Home Affairs Department (HAD) said that the LegCo had long established an arrangement of holding meeting-cum-luncheons with DC Members. However, the arrangement was suspended during the sixth-term DCs.
Today was the first meeting between DCs and the LegCo after the implementation of improving governance at district level by the Government. Resumption of communication between DCs and the LegCo facilitates their collaboration in uniting all sectors in society and building the community hand in hand.
The seventh-term DCs will continue to facilitate the Government's implementation of policies and measures that are beneficial to people's livelihood, thereby increasing their sense of happiness and contentment.
Meetings between the LegCo and the remaining 16 DCs will take place in 2024-25. The discussion outcomes of the relevant meetings will be disseminated through the social media page of the HAD (www.facebook.com/HADFB).
