Fatal traffic accident in Cheung Sha Wan reclassified as manslaughter, trafficking in dangerous drug and assisting an offender

Police today (March 16) reclassified a fatal traffic accident happened in Cheung Sha Wan on March 14 as a case of manslaughter, trafficking in dangerous drug and assisting an offender, in which a 66-year-old woman died. Three men in suspected connection with the case were arrested.
During a patrol in the vicinity of 60 Castle Peak Road in Cheung Sha Wan by officers of the Emergency Unit of Kowloon West at 7.28pm on March 14, a private car suspected of illegal parking was spotted. The officers approached for enquiry but the private car suddenly accelerated, subsequently collided with three other private cars, a taxi and the 66-year-old female pedestrian. The concerned private car driver then fled.
Sustaining serious head injuries, the 66-year-old woman was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 4.58pm yesterday (March 15). A 54-year-old private car male driver, who sustained ear and hand injuries, was sent to Caritas Medical Centre in conscious state.
Some 30 grams of suspected crack cocaine and some 20 grams of suspected "ice", with an estimated market value of around $52,000, were seized from the concerned private car. Following initial investigation, a 32-year-old male owner of the private car was arrested yesterday in Sheung Shui for trafficking in dangerous drug. Police laid a holding charge against the man with one count of trafficking in dangerous drug. The case has been mentioned at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts today.
After further investigations, Police arrested a 22-year-old man believed to be the driver of the concerned private car in Cheung Sha Wan last night for manslaughter and trafficking in dangerous drug. Additionally, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Kwai Chung last night for assisting an offender. The two arrested men are being detained for further enquiries.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.
Active investigation by the District Crime Squad of Sham Shui Po District is underway. Investigation is ongoing and the possibility of further arrests is not ruled out.
