Update on cluster of Influenza A cases in Kwai Chung Hospital

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A in two wards, the spokesman for Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) made the following update today (September 23):
Two more male patient in the same ward of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and four more male patients in the same post-admission ward of KCH (aged 52 to 65) have presented with fever or respiratory symptoms, or were identified by contact tracing investigation. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive for Influenza A. Four of the patients are being hospitalized in Princess Margaret Hospital for further treatment or other medical needs, while the other patients are being treated in isolation in KCH. All the patients are in stable condition.
Admission to the wards concerned and visiting arrangements have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been enhanced according to established guidelines. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the conditions of the patients in the wards concerned.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
