Update on cluster of Influenza A cases in Kwai Chung Hospital
*************************************************************
Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A in two wards, the spokesperson for Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) made the following update today (September 21):
Four more male patients (aged 31 to 64) in the same ward of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit of KCH presented with fever or respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.
In addition, two male patients (aged 70 and 71) in the same post-admission ward of KCH were transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) due to other medical needs on September 19 and 20 respectively. Both of them presented with fever symptoms and viral tests were arranged for the patients by PMH. Their test results were positive for Influenza A. They are in stable condition.
Admission to the wards concerned and visiting arrangements have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been enhanced according to established guidelines. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the conditions of the patients in the wards concerned.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
