Hong Kong artists shine in Edinburgh Festival Fringe (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO) supported three Hong Kong performance programmes, namely Théâtre de la Feuille, and Mui Cheuk-yin and TS Crew from performance platform "Hong Kong Soul", to stage the good stories of Hong Kong at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, United Kingdom (UK).

     The Director-General of the London ETO, Mr Gilford Law, addressed the audience of the three performance programmes staged on August 8 and 9 (London time). He stressed that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to supporting Hong Kong's art and cultural sector and developing Hong Kong into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. He also welcomed the audience to visit Hong Kong and experience the unique cultural landscape of the city.

     A brief introduction of the three performance programmes is as follows:

     Mui Cheuk-yin, one of the most celebrated dancers and choreographers of Hong Kong, presented a contemporary dance performance titled "Diary VII: The Story of......". With grace and emotion, Mui skilfully guided her audience through an intimate autobiographical journey, offering a heartfelt glimpse into her life. Her performance beautifully conveyed the depth of her love and connection with her feline companion, creating a touching experience for everyone in attendance.

     Théâtre de la Feuille is a Hong Kong theatre group that tells stories with body movements. Its work "Fall and Flow" is a non-verbal comedy, inspired by the famous Wuxia and Kung Fu films of Hong Kong. With a captivating comedy intertwined with Kung Fu, the troupe skilfully presented the profound themes of love, hate and sorrow and left audiences with food for thought. 

     TS Crew, as the winner of the Asian Arts Award for Best Show of last year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe, astounded the audience with their innovative reinterpretation of the lion dance and Chinese Opera. They skilfully wove in elements of beatboxing, martial arts, tricking, and parkour, creating an electrifying fusion that pushed the boundaries of performance art.

     The Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023 runs from August 4 to 28 in Edinburgh, UK. "Diary VII: The Story of…..." by Mui Cheuk-yin, and "No Dragon No Lion" by TS Crew play at C Arts, Lauriston Halls till August 13. "Fall and Flow" by Théâtre de la Feuille plays at Underbelly, Cowgate till August 27.
