Major awards include the Building/Facility Management Project of the Year and Sustainability Award of the Year awards received by the Architectural Services Department; the Contract Innovation of the Year award received by the Drainage Services Department; and the Water Contract of the Year award received by the Water Supplies Department, while the DEVB and other works departments received commendations under different award categories.
The Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Ricky Lau, delivered a keynote speech at the event, announcing the launch of the Hong Kong Edition of the NEC Engineering and Construction Contract. The contract template is better geared towards meeting local legislation requirements and procurement practices, while also encouraging the adoption of innovation and technology in construction works. The aim is to bring merit to site safety, site supervision efficiency and decarbonisation in preparation for the upcoming golden era of the construction industry.
The DEVB piloted the use of the NEC form in public works projects in 2009 and has expanded its application since then. As of today, more than 500 NECs for public works have been awarded, amounting to over $270 billion worth of contracts.
The Martin Barnes Awards is an annual event of the NEC Users' Group under the Institution of Civil Engineers of the United Kingdom to give recognition to projects and organisations around the world that have showcased excellence in project delivery through collaborative partnering. This year the Martin Barnes Awards attracted over 70 entries from across the world.
The full list of the awardees is available on the NEC Users' Group website at www.neccontract.com/projects/awards.
