Government appoints Executive Director of Urban Renewal Authority
*****************************************************************
The Government announced today (July 14) that the Chief Executive has, on the recommendation of a selection panel, appointed Mr Wilfred Au Chun-ho as Executive Director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) for a term of three years with effect from July 15, 2023.

Mr Au will assist the Managing Director of the URA in formulating and implementing policies and initiatives on matters relating to the URA's planning and design, property and land, and corporate services.

Mr Au was selected through an internal recruitment exercise of the URA and considered by a selection panel set up by the Development Bureau.

The Secretary for Development, Ms Bernadette Linn, said, "Mr Au is an architect by profession and has worked for more than 15 years in the URA. He is well versed with the whole range of the URA's operation and in particular, has extensive experience in the planning of urban renewal projects. We look forward to working closely with him in his new capacity in furthering the important task of urban renewal in Hong Kong.

"I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Eric Poon Shun-wing, who is retiring upon completion of his term of office, for his invaluable contributions in various capacities in the URA over the years. Since taking up the position of Executive Director in 2020, with his profound knowledge and extensive experience, Mr Poon has made significant contributions in taking forward a number of district-based and planning-led urban renewal projects as well as playing a pivotal role in the implementation of the recommendations of the District Study for Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok," Ms Linn added.

The selection panel, chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands), comprises the Chairman of the URA, Mr Chow Chung-kong; the Managing Director of the URA, Mr Wai Chi-sing; the Director of Lands (Official Non-Executive Director of the URA Board); and Non-Executive Director of the URA Board Mr William Chan Fu-keung.

Under the existing establishment of the URA, there are two Executive Directors underpinning the Managing Director of the URA in taking forward the work of urban renewal.
