The Controller of the GFS, Captain West Wu, today (June 16) said, "The newly introduced facility is the first custom-made search and rescue mission simulator for Airbus H175 helicopter in the world. The FFS will enhance the safety and efficiency of GFS operations by enabling pilots to train for complex and challenging missions without risking the crew or aircraft. It will also reduce the operational costs and environmental impact of the training, as it will save fuel and helicopter maintenance expenses."
The FFS consists of a full-size replica of the GFS H175 helicopter cockpit, a visual system providing an out-of-the-cockpit view, motion systems, and a sound system. It can simulate various flight scenarios and environmental conditions, such as day and night, and different weather, terrain and emergencies. It is also equipped with the high-resolution Hong Kong geographical and visual database, which allows pilots to carry out mission training in realistic environmental conditions.
The FFS project underwent two years of development and testing, first in Spain where the factory is located, and then in Hong Kong where it was reassembled and installed at the GFS Flight Simulator Training Centre. The FFS obtained Level D qualification, the highest level of qualification by the European Aviation Safety Agency and the Civil Aviation Department, last year.
Captain Wu said, "The GFS is committed to serving the community and the Government by providing 24-hour aviation services through dedication, teamwork and professional excellence. The new FFS will help us achieve this goal by enhancing our training capabilities and ensuring that our pilots are always ready to respond to any emergencies."
