Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled live lobsters and computer display cards (with photos)

     ýÿHong Kong Customs yesterday (April 28) mounted an anti-smuggling operation at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port and detected a suspected smuggling case involving a cross-boundary private car. About 280 kilograms of unmanifested live lobsters and 70 pieces of unmanifested high-value computer display cards with a total estimated market value of about $600,000 were seized.

     Customs Officers yesterday intercepted an outbound private car declared to be empty at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port. Upon inspection, the batch of unmanifested live lobsters and high-value computer display cards was seized in the boot. A male driver and a male passenger, aged 37 and 51 respectively, both suspected to be connected with the case were subsequently arrested.

     An investigation is ongoing.

     Customs will continue to combat cross-boundary smuggling activities with firm enforcement action based on risk assessment and intelligence analysis.

     Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
