Speaking at today's (April 24) press conference, the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, said that Hong Kong has faced a lot of challenges over the past three years. With Hong Kong returning to normalcy, and the full resumption of connectivity between Hong Kong and the Mainland as well as the global community early this year, restaurants, shops and other businesses are reviving. Major events are also returning to Hong Kong, showcasing the city's advantages as an event capital.
Mr Chan said, "To share the joy with the public, the Government has announced in this year's Budget the 'Happy Hong Kong' Campaign, targeting all citizens, to allow them to participate in various activities and enjoy the delicacies."
Highlights of the "Happy Hong Kong" Campaign include a series of Gourmet Marketplaces in different parts of the city, organised by the Home Affairs Department, showcasing local, Mainland, and international delicacies. The first of the series will be held on April 29 and 30 at the Exhibition Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
On April 29, 61 commercial theatres in Hong Kong will be celebrating the Cinema Day. Tickets will be offered at a uniform price of $30 on that day.
Additionally, a range of agricultural and fisheries festivals are scheduled to take place across multiple districts, including Tsing Yi, Lok Fu, Yuen Long, and Mong Kok.
During the summer holidays, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will also host a large-scale sea-land carnival on the Wan Chai promenade, with Victoria Harbour as the grand stage. This Harbour Chill Carnival will feature music concerts with singers and bands from around the world, as well as X Games elements, street performances, and a special edition of "A Symphony of Lights", providing a novel and captivating experience for the public and tourists.
During the campaign period, various organisations including Cyberport; Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; the Hong Kong Jockey Club; and the Vocational Training Council; the Ocean Park Corporation; the Hong Kong Disneyland; and the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, will also hold a wide range of events with various types and themes, focusing on pop culture, sports and music, for the public to enjoy.
Mr Chan said that the campaign offers a diverse range of activities. With the distribution of the first round of consumption vouchers, he said he hopes it will add more joy to members of the public when they take part in the activities.
