STL begins visit programme in Beijing (with photos)

     The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung, began his visit to Beijing today (April 19).

     Upon arrival, he met with the Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Mr Song Zhiyong. Mr Lam briefed Mr Song on the latest developments of the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport and the various projects under the Airport City vision, as well as the air traffic recovery of Hong Kong International Airport. He thanked the CAAC for its strong support for the development of civil aviation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Mr Lam also shed light on the HKSAR Government's determination in consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub, as well as developing itself into a regional centre for aviation manpower training. The Chief Operating Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Mrs Vivian Cheung, and the President of the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy, Mr Simon Li, who were in Beijing, also attended the meeting.

     Mr Lam then visited the National Development and Reform Commission to meet with the Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Department, and Director General of International Affairs Department, Office of the Leading Group for Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, Mr Pan Jiang. Mr Lam said that the National 14th Five-Year Plan established a strategic positioning for Hong Kong's future development at the national level, and supported Hong Kong in reinforcing and enhancing its competitive advantages in the development of the "eight centres". The Transport and Logistics Bureau will continue to innovate and push ahead with the development of smart port, high value-added logistics and aircraft leasing business to proactively integrate into the overall development of the country and seize the opportunities brought about by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative, with a view to enhancing the flow of people and goods between Hong Kong and the Mainland while enjoying strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world.

     He will continue his visit in Beijing tomorrow (April 20) with visits to the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the National Railway Administration.
