Prince of Wales Hospital announces hospital facility safety incident

The spokesman for Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) made the following announcement today (April 19) regarding a hospital facility safety incident:
An aluminum metal cover of an automatic door track located in the operating theatre of PWH fell yesterday morning (April 18). The aluminum metal cover covered the internal cable panel inside the track. No patients or staff were injured, and patient services were not affected.
The hospital is very concerned about the incident and immediately arranged for the maintenance vendor to perform emergency repairs. The repair works were completed last night.
The hospital is investigating the cause of the incident. A contractor had installed a sensor on the automatic door concerned in March 2023. As a precautionary measure, inspections of all automatic doors with the sensor installed by the same contractor recently will be conducted today. The incident did not involve the structural safety of the building.
The hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
