Update on cluster of Rhinovirus/Enterovirus and Respiratory Syncytial Virus cases in Siu Lam Hospital

Regarding an announcement yesterday (April 17) on clusters of inpatient infection cases, the spokesperson for Siu Lam Hospital made the following update today (April 18):
Following a cluster of patients in a female ward for severe intellectual disability that had been confirmed for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus yesterday, one more 60-year-old patient in the ward presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. The patient is being treated in isolation and is in stable condition.
In addition, following another cluster of patients in a male ward for severe intellectual disability that had been confirmed for Respiratory Syncytial Virus yesterday, one more 45-year-old patient in the ward has presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patient is being treated in isolation and is in stable condition.
Admission to the two wards has been suspended, and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
