Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital announces passing away of patient in waiting area of Accident and Emergency Department

The spokesman for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital made the following announcement today (April 17) regarding the passing away of a patient in the waiting area of the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department:
A 58-year-old female patient with chronic diseases attended the A&E last night (April 16) at around 11pm due to fever and cough. Medical assessment was conducted for the patient at 11.15am today and further examinations were arranged. The patient was in stable condition.
At around 12.30pm, healthcare staff prepared to transfer the patient for further examinations. The patient was called in the waiting area and via Public Address System, but in vain. At around 1.45pm, the patient was called again via the Public Address System, but still in vain. At 4.30pm, the patient was found unresponsive inside the accessible toilet in the A&E's waiting hall. Resuscitation was performed immediately. The patient was certified dead at 5.06pm.
The hospital met the patient's family members today to explain the details of the incident and expressed condolences to family members. The hospital will offer the necessary assistance to family members.
The hospital is very concerned about the incident and has reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System. The case will be reported to Coroner to follow up.
