Winning gardens on display at Hong Kong Flower Show (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Flower Show 2023 (HKFS) is currently running at Victoria Park. Apart from beautiful floral arrangements and mosaiculture works, the winning entries of the Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition and Western Style Garden Plot Competition, one of the HKFS's activities, are also on display at the showground.
 
     The flower show has introduced an online voting of "My Most Favourite Garden Plot" this year. Members of the public can vote for their favourite ones through the Internet before March 19, through which they may have a chance to win free air tickets.
 
     Sha Tin District's "Thai-style Teahouse" and Sai Kung District's "Fairy Tales of Flowers" have won the Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition and the Western Style Garden Plot Competition respectively. Southern District's "A Happy Playground" is the winner of the Environmental Award for a Western Style Garden, while the winner of the Environmental Award for an Oriental Style Garden is Eastern District's "My Garden". All entries in the Garden Plot Competitions were designed by staff of the District Leisure Services Offices of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).
 
     With a theme of going for picnics, the "Thai-style Teahouse" features a Thai-style gazebo and three seating areas where friends can enjoy a happy gathering al fresco. An array of exotic palm trees, dazzling flowers and colourful vegetation dotting the landscape create a refreshingly great scene for garden lovers. In addition, the flowing water from a feature wall and the water lilies on a still pond surrounded by blooming hydrangeas, oncidium and dendrobium give pleasures of tranquillity to all visitors.
 
     The design of the "Fairy Tales of Flowers" aims to create a colourful world of fairy tales. This garden plot features a cabin in the shape of an open book, leading visitors to a journey of magical adventures. Occupying the front left corner of the garden plot is a bench made out of a recycled wooden wheel, epitomising optimal utilisation of materials in pursuit of the concept of going green. At the rear right is a reading corner, illuminated by solar-powered garden lights and furnished with a bookshelf made of tree branches at the back and a desk. Old books and papers pile up on the desk, conjuring up an intellectually elegant ambience, by which visitors will no doubt easily lose track of time.
 
     The flower show is running until this Sunday (March 19) from 9am to 9pm daily with some 400 000 flowering plants being on display. A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities are also being held for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages.

     The flower show is organised by the LCSD. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is supporting the flower show for the 11th consecutive year and has been the major sponsor of the flower show since 2014.
