Government and large corporates jointly launch new round of Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland and Overseas
******************************************************************************************
In his 2022 Policy Address, the Chief Executive stated that the Government will work with all sectors of the community on promoting a variety of activities to help young people broaden their horizons and acquire a better understanding of the development of the country and the world. In the Youth Development Blueprint released by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau in December 2022, it was also mentioned that the breadth and depth of internship and exchange programmes on the Mainland and overseas would be further enhanced. This includes expanding the number of placements under the Scheme by encouraging more large corporates to offer internship opportunities at their Mainland and overseas operations.
The number of companies participating in the new round of the Scheme has increased to 24 (from 18 in the previous round), providing a total of more than 320 internship placements in different Mainland provinces and cities including various cities in the Greater Bay Area, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chengdu, Chongqing, etc, as well as overseas countries including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Sweden. The placements also cover a wider range of industries than before, such as financial services, innovation and technology, logistics, property development, retail, hospitality and public utilities (please refer to the Annex for details of the internship placements). The applicants should be post-secondary students (including those in sub-degree, undergraduate or postgraduate programmes) and be Hong Kong permanent residents. The internship will take place between June and September this year and last for no less than six weeks.
The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak, said, "With the resumption of normal travel between Hong Kong and other places, the Scheme will be officially resumed in this summer. I am delighted with the very enthusiastic responses from the business sector within a short period of time. More than 20 large corporates show their support by offering diverse and quality internship placements. In particular, I would like to thank all participating companies for sponsoring the interns for major expenses including transportation and accommodation costs, and assigning dedicated personnel to provide training and support to the interns. Through the concerted efforts of the Government and corporates, we will groom a cohort of young talents with an understanding of our country's development and a global perspective."
Details of the Scheme are available on the dedicated webpage (www.ydc.gov.hk/scsi/en). Interested young people should submit their applications through the centralised application platform on the dedicated webpage on or before March 28. Each person can apply for up to three companies in one single application. Upon receiving the applications, participating companies will contact applicants directly for the assessment and selection process and make placement arrangements for selected interns.
