Four persons sentenced for violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation

The first two cases involved a 68-year-old man and a 29-year-old man. They earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, the 68-year-old man left the place of isolation on October 13 last year, whereas the 29-year-old man left the place of isolation and removed his electronic wristband on August 3 last year. The 68-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of the Regulation and was sentenced by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts to imprisonment for two weeks, suspended for 12 months today. The 29-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) and sections 23(1), (4) and (5) of the Regulation and was bound over for 12 months with a recognisance of $1,000 by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today.
The other two cases involved a 56-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman. They were earlier issued with compulsory quarantine orders. Before the expiry of the quarantine orders, they left the place of quarantine on July 8 and July 12 last year respectively. They were charged with contravening sections 32(1) and (3) and sections 22(1), (4) and (6) of the Regulation respectively and were each sentenced to imprisonment for two weeks, suspended for 12 months by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today.
