******************************************************************************
The Government gazetted today (March 3) a draft map of the proposed North Lantau Marine Park (NLMP), which is available for public inspection for 60 days starting from today.

With a view to enhancing conservation of Chinese White Dolphins (CWDs) and other marine life, the Government proposes to establish the NLMP in the north Lantau waters as the eighth marine park in Hong Kong. The proposed NLMP is located between the Sha Chau and Lung Kwu Chau Marine Park (SCLKCMP) and the Brothers Marine Park (BMP), with a total area of ýÿýÿabout 2 400 hectares.

A government spokesman said, "The waters of north Lantau are important habitats for CWDs and other marine life, and have a very high marine biodiversity. The proposed NLMP together with the existing SCLKCMP and BMP, will form a larger marine park network in north Lantau waters for better protection of the important habitats for CWDs, and conservation of marine environment and marine biodiversity."

The draft map of the proposed NLMP was prepared by the Country and Marine Parks Authority in accordance with the Marine Parks Ordinance (Cap. 476). Members of the public can examine the draft map free of charge from today until May 1 at designated government offices during office hours. Copies of the draft map are also available for sale at the headquarters of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) on 5/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Shan Wan Road, Kowloon.
