Contractors fined for violation of safety legislation

�Kwong Luen Engineering Limited and Young Generation Engineering Limited were fined $120,000 and $128,000 respectively at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (February 22) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Lifting Appliances and Lifting Gear) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on April 14, 2021, in a construction site at Kai Tak Area. While a worker was assisting in an unloading operation of a pile of panels lifted by a lorry-mounted crane at the lorry compartment, the pile of panels was displaced and struck the worker causing him to fall onto the ground. The worker was injured and passed away on the same day.
