******************************************************************************************
ýÿThe Correctional Services Department (CSD) held the first graduation ceremony of the Postgraduate Certificate in Correctional Governance and Leadership Programme at the Hong Kong Correctional Services Academy (HKCSA) today (February 22). Twenty correctional officers were presented with graduation certificates.

The Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Wong Kwok-hing, and the Director of the School of Professional and Continuing Education of the University of Hong Kong (HKU SPACE), Professor William Lee, officiated at the ceremony.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Correctional Governance and Leadership Programme was held between July and November 2022 by the HKCSA and the HKU SPACE for senior correctional officers of Superintendent rank or above. Topics of the programme included Correctional Governance, Applied Criminology, Community Engagement and Leadership.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr Wong said the CSD has attached great importance to providing professional training for its staff. To enhance the professionalism of correctional officers, the department has committed to offering courses recognised by the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF) for its staff in recent years. The Postgraduate Certificate in Correctional Governance and Leadership Programme is the first of its kind in Asia, which is pitched at level 6 under Hong Kong QF (the same level as a local Master's Degree), marking a milestone for the professional training for its staff by the department and for the CSD to nurture administrators with professional knowledge. He hoped that the graduates could apply the acquired knowledge and practical skills in their daily work and lead the CSD for better correctional governance and management in this ever-changing society.

In his speech, Professor Lee mentioned that the HKU SPACE has collaborated closely with the CSD for more than 10 years, and has co-organised a number of courses. He is happy to collaborate with the CSD to contribute to the department's professional training, which can help senior correctional officers be equipped with new professional knowledge and skills to face the challenges ahead, thus enhancing the professionalism of the disciplined services in Hong Kong.

The programme will be opened to senior officers of correctional services authorities in Mainland China, Macao, etc, to facilitate knowledge and experience exchanges among correctional officers in different jurisdictions.
