London ETO greets Year of Rabbit in Norway and Finland (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO) co-hosted receptions in Oslo, Norway, and Helsinki, Finland, with local business associations on January 30 and February 1 respectively for celebrating the Year of the Rabbit. The receptions were well attended by guests from the respective local government, business, academic and cultural sectors.

     On January 30, the London ETO and the Norway-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce co-hosted an evening reception in Oslo greeting over 80 guests. Addressing the Norwegian audience, the Director-General of the London ETO, Mr Gilford Law, highlighted that Hong Kong had reconnected with the world by lifting travel restrictions and certain social distancing measures, and resuming normal travel with Mainland China progressively.

     Mr Law added, "The 'one country, two systems' principle has supported Hong Kong in maintaining our distinctive status and edges. As underpinned by the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the Central Government fully supports Hong Kong's status as an international transportation centre. Norway is one of the world's top shipping nations. Leveraging on Hong Kong's strength as an international maritime centre, there is plenty of room for future co-operation between Norway and Hong Kong." Mr Law further encouraged Norwegian companies to set up or expand their businesses in Hong Kong.

     On February 1, the London ETO and the Finland-Hong Kong Business Association co-hosted an afternoon reception in Helsinki greeting over 50 guests. Speaking at the reception, Mr Law gave the Finnish community an update on the latest development of Hong Kong. He also shared the many opportunities that lie ahead for the city, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area initiatives, and the development of the fintech and green finance ecosystem, which collectively shall further strengthen Hong Kong's status as a pre-eminent global financial centre.

     Mr Law concluded on a positive note, "I see huge potential for greater exchange and collaboration between Hong Kong and Finland in various areas, such as innovation and technology, design, and health care services. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic earlier, we are confident that Hong Kong remains to be an ideal location for international businesses to thrive and tap into the Mainland and Asia-Pacific markets."

     The London ETO will organise further events to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit in the countries under its purview in the coming weeks.
