Arrangements for Lunar New Year fairs

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today (January 13) that the 2023 Lunar New Year (LNY) fairs will be held at 15 locations for seven days from January 16 to 2am on January 22, with a total of 922 wet goods stalls selling New Year flowers. Apart from relevant anti-epidemic measures, the admission to and exit from the respective LNY fair sites will be monitored and controlled with the use of technology, with a view to assisting the public to enter the fair sites in an orderly manner.

A spokesman for the FEHD said, "In response to the Government's latest anti-epidemic measures, related arrangements at the LNY fairs have been adjusted. The measures include that all participants must wear masks when entering or staying at the fair venues, that stall operators must provide in their stalls anti-septic hand sanitisers for use by the patrons at all times during business hours, and that they are also required to carry out cleaning and disinfection of their stalls on a daily basis using 1:99 diluted household bleach. We have already informed the stall licensees of the adjusted anti-epidemic measures in writing."

The spokesman added, "The admission to and exit from the LNY fairs will be monitored using innovation and technology measures and implement crowd control when necessary. Special crowd management measures will be implemented at three LNY fairs with high patron flow, including Victoria Park (Causeway Bay), Fa Hui Park (Sham Shui Po) and Sha Tsui Road Playground (Tsuen Wan). When the footfall increases, the ticketing system will be activated, and the public may get a ticket on site or obtain an e-ticket through the mobile app which can be downloaded for free. One may enter the fair with the ticket within 60 minutes after the ticket number is called."

The footfall and the waiting status of the 15 LNY fairs will be displayed in a "Green, Amber and Red Lights" format on site and on the FEHD website to enable the public to know about the footfall at the fair. Green light means few people inside the fair and that no waiting is required, amber light indicates an increase in footfall and that waiting is required, while red light represents a large number of people awaiting admission and that a longer waiting time would be needed.
