Government clarifies that persons undergoing voluntary testing still entitled free COVID-19 nucleic acid testing

     The Government clarified today (December 16) that free COVID-19 nucleic acid testing has all along been provided to designated groups, including persons undergoing voluntary testing, at the community testing centres, community testing stations and ad-hoc mobile specimen collection stations with a view to detecting confirmed cases early. A Government spokesman stressed that the relevant testing policy remains unchanged.

     At present, following individuals are still eligible for free testing provided by the Government:

1. Persons subject to compulsory testing
2. Staff of public hospitals and that of residential care homes (RCHs) for the elderly and persons with disabilities
3. Visitors to public hospitals and RCHs
4. Elderly aged 60 or above
5. Inbound persons
6. Persons undergoing voluntary testing

     The persons concerned can receive free testing by making a booking online in advance or using the Testing Registration Code in the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application when they register for testing.

     Children aged 15 or below, elderly aged 65 or above, and persons with disabilities can still undergo free testing even without advance booking or without the Testing Registration Code.
